The active view is the one that is currently displayed in the viewport, and on which you are performing modifications (such as moving or adding actors, changing actors' properties, etc.).
The active view is surrounded by a thick border in the Views pane. This enables you to differentiate between the active view and other views which may be selected (these are surrounded by a thin border and highlighted).

Note:
When the mouse focus is in the Views panel, the color surrounding the active view and selected view(s) is a light blue. When the Views panel loses the focus, the color surrounding the active view and selected view(s) turns to a light gray.
