Clearance Checking Workshop

The Clearance Checking workshop performs static clash detection, clearance checking, and minimal distance tests.

Use this workshop to qualify service and assembly procedures.

To display this workshop, click Workshops > Geometry > Clearance Checking > .

Note: This workshop requires a Composer Check license.

This page discusses:

Working set

The working set lets you specify which actors participate in the test.

Note: Working set selections are not saved in profiles.

Command NameDescription
Working setSpecifies which actors participate in the test.
  • Check selection - Checks only actors in the current selection, selection set, or hotspot.
  • Selection versus all - Checks actors in the current selection, selection set, or hotspot against all other actors.
  • Selection 1 versus Selection 2 - Checks actors in the current selection, selection set, or hotspot against the actors in another selection.

Working mode

These options specify the clearance checking scope.

In this illustration, both On visible actors only and Full check are selected.

Command NameDescription
On visible actors onlyTests visible actors only. When cleared, performs tests on all actors.
Full checkAnalyzes clashes for all triangles of the selection so that all intersection lines can be calculated. When cleared, clash detection stops as soon as two triangles collide.
Note: Full check is time and memory intensive.

Control type

Control type lets you specify which test to perform.

Command NameDescription
Control typeSpecifies which test to perform:
  • Clash test - Identifies intersections and contacts between selected geometry actors taking into account the difference between CAD models and the geometry. Some displayed intersections might be contacts based on the precision on the models. The value of the precision is the chordal error (see Refinement).
  • Clearance checking - Runs the analysis using the specified minimal distance between actors. The analysis detects pairs of collided actors (closer than the minimal distance).
  • Minimal distance - Calculates the minimal distance between various actors. The analysis identifies the actors in collision and the pair of closest actors in the selection. Precision lets you set the determination step between intersections and contacts. This value is computed according to your model quality settings (see Refinement): a higher quality setting increases precision, a lower one decreases it.

Report

These options are available with the clearance report.

IconCommand NameDescription
ComputePerforms the selected test.
Save ResultsSaves results in XML, HTML, Excel, or CSV format.
Load ResultsLoads a previously saved file of clearance results to avoid recalculating.
View/Hide ResultDisplays or hides results.
Show Selected Result Only with GhostGhosts the selected results.
Build CollaborationCreates intersection-line collaborative actors for the selected results. See also Multi-line building.
Clear AllClears the clearance checking session.
Multi-line buildingCreates an intersection-line collaborative actor for each intersection between two actors. To create one intersection line with all intersections between actors, clear this option.
Result ColumnsDisplays the contacts and intersections. Click a result to see the actors in the scene. Right-click a result and click Fill data to add comments or select a Status ( Undefined, Relevant, or Irrelevant).
