Datum Dialog Box

You can insert datum specifications and symbols and apply them to individual datums, datum groups, and datum compartments.

To open this dialog box:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In the Tolerance dialog box, click Add Datum.
    • Double-click an existing geometric tolerance symbol, then click its existing datum symbol.
    • Double-click an existing geometric tolerance symbol, then:
      1. Click the handle to the right of the symbol.

      2. Click Datum.

Create Datum Group Common datum group
Translational Constraint Along n Axis and Rotational Constraint About n Axis Modifiers that specify which degrees of freedom to constrain by the referenced datum.
Contact Feature Contacting feature
Plane Situation Feature Complementary datum indication (derived plane)
Straight Line Situation Feature Complementary datum indication (straight line)
Point Situation Feature Complementary datum indication (point)
Orientation Degrees of Freedom only Specifies that the referenced datum constrains the rotations only and is free to translate.
Variable linear distance within a collection of features Variable linear distance
Feature Projection Projected tolerance zone. Defines the datum by its projected tolerance zone.
  Projection Numeric only
Maximum Material Condition Material condition modifier that represents the datum feature in its maximum material condition.
Least Material Condition Material condition modifier that represents the datum feature in its least material condition.
Regardless to Feature Size Material condition modifier, regardless of feature size.
Translation  
Free State Establishes the datum in its free state condition.
  Add New Adds a datum frame. (Available if there are less than three datum in the geometric tolerance symbol.)
  Delete Deletes a datum frame.
