SOLIDWORKS Inspection Template Editor Dialog Box

The Template Editor uses Microsoft® Excel®, which means you can use Microsoft Excel functionality to customize report templates with formatting, advanced formulas, macros, lookup tables, conditional formatting, and data validation. This helps you create automated and error-proof reports.

To access this dialog box, click File > Template Editor, and select a template in the Select an inspection sheet template dialog box.

If you created custom fields or custom properties in an inspection project, you can use tokens to map these fields to the report template.

Template

Displays the report template. Click Change to specify a different template. You can have only one active template at a time.

To use your company's report template, first save it as a Microsoft Excel template (.xltx) to open it with the Template Editor.

Orientation

Some tokens, such as characteristic tokens, can populate fields in report templates in a vertical or horizontal orientation. Depending on the type of report you need to create, select the appropriate orientation before inserting tokens in a report.

For example, if you select Horizontal Based Template and insert the Balloon Number token, each column has a balloon number displayed in it (1,2,3,...). If you select Vertical Based Template, balloon numbers display in rows instead of columns.

Tokens

Use tokens to map SOLIDWORKS Inspection fields to report templates.

Balloon Locations Lists all locations for balloons associated with a characteristic when you turn a balloon on.
Balloon Number Balloon number listed in the drawing.

This may be different from a characteristic number. Characteristic numbers must be unique identifiers, whereas balloon numbers can be duplicates.

Basic Specifies a basic dimension.
Characteristic Number Unique identifier generated for each dimension by SOLIDWORKS Inspection.
Classification Characteristic designator (such as Critical, Major, Key)
Comments Free text column where you can enter characteristic comments.
Custom Fields 1-10 User-defined customized fields.
File Path File path location of the original drawing.
Filename File name of the original drawing.
Fit Grade
Fit Type
For Reference Specifies a reference dimension.
Full Balloon Location The letters and numbers along the border of a drawing sheet format that signify zones on the sheet.

For example, if a balloon location is B3, you can locate the balloon in the quadrant on the sheet where a line intersects row B and column 3.

Full Specification
Inspection Method Inspection method used to inspect the attribute.
Key Specifies a key characteristic.
Lower Limit Absolute lower limit of the dimension.

Calculated by subtracting the dimension's lower tolerance from the dimension's nominal value.

Minus Tolerance Dimension's lower tolerance value.
Nominal Value (GDT Font)
Nominal Value (Text Only) Characteristic's nominal value.

This is also the numeric value for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing symbols (GDT), weld and surface finish symbols, and notes.

Nonconformance Number
Operation Characteristic's inspection process.
Plus Tolerance Dimension's upper tolerance value.
Plus Tolerance/Minus Tolerance
Quantity Characteristic's quantity.

For example, if there are 3X (3 instances) of the characteristic to inspect.
