When a symbol is in the library, it consists of a graphical
representation and a set of technical characteristics stored in the database.
The symbols must be edited using the Symbol management, if
not they cannot be managed by the software. It will not have a mark and cannot be
associated with a manufacturer part.
A symbol contains circuits, on which connection points can be placed. These
connection points allow you to cut the wire. They are also used to propagate the
numbers of the material terminals provided by the manufacturer part.
The symbols also have attributes (text) allowing certain information stored in the
database to be propagated across the scheme (such as mark or cross references
text).
You can access it from:
- Symbol management: Open
- Contextual menu of a symbol:
The selected symbol opens in a graphical interface. If you do not activate the
Keep the dialog opened option, the Symbol
management dialog box closes. If not, you can close it manually or
resize it.
When the editor opens, the ribbon menu changes. An Edit symbol
menu appears. The dockable panel changes to display the symbol properties and the
circuit definition.
Use the following steps to manage the symbol with SOLIDWORKS Electrical:
- Insertion point management
- Circuit management
- Connection point management
- Attribute management
You can save and close the file.
