Automatic SOLIDWORKS File Generation

SOLIDWORKS Electrical automatically generates SOLIDWORKS 3D assembly files for each location to create a cabinet layout.

You can select the assemblies to create. The default behavior is to have one assembly for each location and one assembly for the project that you use to insert these locations.

To generate the new files, in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical toolbar:
  1. Do one of the following:
    • In the menu, click Tools > SOLIDWORKS Electrical > Process > SOLIDWORKS Assembly .
    • Right-click a project and select Process > SOLIDWORKS Assembly .
  2. In the Creation of assembly files dialog box, the following columns appear:
    Option Description
    Select the assembly to create.
    Drawing description Displays the description of the electrical document (SOLIDWORKS assembly).
    Associated with Displays if the SOLIDWORKS assembly is associated with an electrical project or a location.
    Mark Displays the full mark of the electrical project or a location.
    Object name Displays the description of the location to which the electrical document (SOLIDWORKS assembly) is associated.
    Destination

    Click Destination to open the Selection of: Books, Folders dialog box.

    In the dialog box, you can choose the location on the document tree where the assembly is created.

    Select existing file Click Select existing file to associate the electrical project or a location to an existing SOLIDWORKS assembly file instead of creating a new one. This file is the shortcut file.
    Target file Displays the complete path to the existing SOLIDWORKS assembly file to which the electrical project or a location is associated.
  3. Click OK.

    The files are automatically added to the electrical project pages.

  4. Double-click a file to open it in the graphics area. You can also right-click the file and click Open.
