-UnitSystem
Use the -UnitSystem command to set linear and angular unit formats and precision.
It is the command window variant of the UnitSystem command.
The unit settings are saved with each drawing, so they can be different for each drawing.
To specify units and precision:
- Type -UnitSystem at the command prompt.
- Specify the type for length units: Architectural, Decimal, Engineering, Fractional, or Scientific.
Decimal is the default linear unit type for new drawings.
- Examples of linear units:
Unit Type |
Example 1 |
Example 2 |
Architectural (Feet and Inches) |
0'-1 1/2" |
125'-0" |
Decimal |
1.5000 |
1500.0000 |
Engineering (Feet and Inches) |
0'-1.5000" |
125'-0.0000" |
Fractional |
1 1/2 |
1500 |
Scientific (Scientific exponential notation) |
1.5000E+00 |
1.5000E+03 |
- Specify the decimal precision: 0 to 8 decimal places (for the Decimal, Engineering, or Scientific unit type)
- or -
Specify the smallest fraction denominator: 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256 (for the Architectural or Fractional unit type).
- Specify the type for angular units: Decimal, Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, Grads, Radians, or Surveyor.
Decimal is the default angular unit type for new drawings.
- Examples of angular units:

- Specify the angle fractional precision: 0 to 8 fractional places.
- Specify the zero angle direction: East, North, South, West, or an angle value in the specified angular units format.
This sets the base angle that specifies a direction for 0°.
For example, surveyors normally set 0° as "up" on the page (North), whereas architects and engineers set 0° as "3 o'clock" (East).
- Specify whether or not to measure angles clockwise (Yes/No).
This sets the direction of measurement from angle 0. The default direction of angle measurement is counterclockwise (No).
