Manual Activation with a SolidNetWork License Manager Server

When you install or upgrade the SolidNetWork License Manager Server, you need to activate or reactivate the license. You can activate or reactivate the license over the internet or choose to do it manually.

When you activate manually:
  • For a new SolidNetWork License Manager Server, you need to activate twice to configure the server correctly. You are initializing the license system on the server the first time you activate. The second time you repeat the procedure, you are activating the license.
  • For an upgraded SolidNetWork License Manager Server, you need to reactivate the existing license. If the server does not have activated licenses, you run activation by using Modify on the Server Administration tab instead.

Initializing a New SolidNetWork License Server

To initialize a new SolidNetWork License Server:

  1. After installing and opening the SolidNetWork License Manager Server, click Yes when prompted to activate.
  2. In the SolidNetWork License Server Information dialog box, verify the Firewall and Ports, and click Next.
  3. In the Product Activation Wizard, select the Serial Numbers to activate, select Manually via E-mail as the activation method, and enter the Email Contact Information.

    The manual method requires that you create a request file and email it to activation@solidworks.com. When you receive the email containing the license response file, extract the file, and click Open to load it to the server.

    You can close and rerun the Product Activation Wizard to open and load the response file.

  4. When a message box notifies you that the initialization succeeded, click OK and in the Product Activation Wizard, click Finish.

Manually Activating a New SolidNetWork License Manager Server

After initializing the SolidNetWork License Manager Server, open the SolidNetWork License Manager Server and create a second request to complete activation.

To manually activate a new SolidNetWork License Manager Server:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If a prompt asks you to activate, click Yes.
    • If the prompt does not appear, click Modify in the Server Administration tab.
    By default, Advanced Options are set to Use Activation mode.
  2. Verify the Firewall and Ports in the SolidNetWork License Server Information dialog box, and click Next.
  3. In the Product Activation Wizard, select the Serial Numbers to activate, enter Email Contact Information, and select Manually via E-mail as the activation method.
  4. Follow the steps to create a request file and send it to activation@solidworks.com. When you receive the license response file, click Open to load the file.
  5. Click Finish when activation completes.

Manually Activate an Upgraded SolidNetWork License Manager Server

After upgrading the SolidNetWork License Manager Server with the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, open the SolidNetWork License Manager Server.

To manually activate an upgraded SolidNetWork License Manager Server:

  1. In the Server Administration tab, under License Information, click Reactivate.
    If you deactivated the licenses before uninstalling and upgrading the SolidNetWork License Manager Server, click Modify instead in the Server Administration tab. Reactivate is only available if there are activated licenses on the server.

    Continue with step 3.

  2. In the Reactivate dialog box, select the installed serial numbers to view their associated licenses and click Reactivate.
  3. Verify the Firewall and Ports in the SolidNetWork License Server Information dialog box and click Next.
  4. In the Product Activation Wizard, select the Serial Numbers to activate, enter Email Contact Information, and select Manually via E-mail as the activation method.
    Manual activation is a simple process. The instructions in the Product Activation wizard will guide you through the procedure.
  5. Click Finish when activation completes.
