SOLIDWORKS Routing Overview

The Routing application is an add-in to the SOLIDWORKS Premium software. With Routing, you can create a special type of subassembly that builds a path of pipes, tubes, electrical cables, or, ducts between components .

When you insert certain components into an assembly, a route subassembly is created automatically. Unlike other types of subassemblies, you do not create a route assembly in its own window and then insert it as a component in the higher-level assembly.

A route subassembly is made up of three types of entities:
  • Components, which are fittings and connectors, including flanges, tees, electrical connectors, and clips.
  • Route parts, which include pipes, tubes, wires, cables, and ducts.
  • Route feature, which includes a 3D sketch of the centerline of the route path.

Working with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform integrates with Routing to help you store and manage routing components in the cloud. This makes it easier to access and share your work, improving collaboration and efficiency.

For information on working with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including opening and saving models, batch uploads and downloads, and managing routing subassemblies, see Managing Routing Components with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
