Templates in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform This topic explains the behavior of templates in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. You can save the templates to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using the Save As Template command. With the earlier versions, you can create a template in SOLIDWORKS by choosing an appropriate template type in the Save As dialog box. View templates in MySession: As the SOLIDWORKS template files are like regular SOLIDWORKS files loaded in SOLIDWORKS, such template files are also visible in MySession. Templates do not have any external references and so they appear in a single row in MySession. The icon representation of templates in MySession is as below: Object Type Template File Type Representation in MySession Part *.prtdot Assembly *.asmdot Drawing *.drwdot Save templates: You can save the template files in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using the Save command available in MySession. A Create Template dialog appears, if the template is not saved in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. For more information, see Creating Templates for the Platform. Download templates: When you connect to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the missing or updated templates are automatically downloaded on the local disk. When multiple revisions of the same template exist on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, only latest revision is downloaded. The downloaded templates are automatically configured in SOLIDWORKS and can be accessed in the 3DEXPERIENCE tab of the File > New dialog box. Templates that are in the Obsolete state are not downloaded. If the 3DEXPERIENCE platform contains templates created by different SOLIDWORKS versions, all these templates are downloaded to the local disk. The File > New dialog of SOLIDWORKS shows all the templates. If you select a template that is not compatible with the current version of SOLIDWORKS, an error message is displayed. You can use and manage SOLIDWORKS Templates from the Product Structure Editor.
