Applying Filters to Import STEP Files

While importing a large STEP file using 3D Interconnect, you can apply filters before import. Using the filters, you can import only selected components of the file from the product structure tree under the Import Filter tab.

To apply filters to import step files:

  1. Click File > Open.
  2. Optional: 3DEXPERIENCE Users: If the Open from 3DEXPERIENCE dialog box appears, click This PC.
  3. In the dialog box, in Files of type, select STEP AP203/214/242 (*.step; *.stp).
  4. Select Enable Filter.
  5. Click OK.
A window appears with a Import Filter tab under which a product structure is displayed similar to the FeatureManager design tree. The graphics area is blank.
  6. In the product structure, select or remove components.

You can select or remove multiple components at the same time with Keep Components and Exclude Components.

  7. Optional: Click Generate 3D Preview.
SOLIDWORKS generates a minimalistic graphics preview with fewer details such as excluding appearances in the graphics area.
  8. Click Import Model to import the filtered model.
You can directly import the minimalistic model without generating the preview.
