Glossary Item Box

SOLIDWORKS Simulation is design analysis software that is based on the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method. SOLIDWORKS Simulation helps you optimize your designs by predicting their responses to various working conditions that you define. Using the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Application Programming Interface (API), you can create studies, perform analysis, and process results.

The SOLIDWORKS Simulation API is an OLE programming interface to SOLIDWORKS Simulation, which allows you to automate creating studies, performing analysis, and processing results. The API contains functions that you can call from Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), VB.NET, C++ 6.0, C++.NET, and C#.NET. These functions provide direct access to the SOLIDWORKS Simulation environment. It is assumed that you are familiar with at least one of the supported programming languages.

This online reference manual documents the interfaces available in the SOLIDWORKS Simulation API, including their associated methods and properties. The SOLIDWORKS Simulation API examples demonstrate the use of the SOLIDWORKS Simulation API to create, define, and process the results of various studies under different working conditions.

NOTES:

  • Some examples use specific models while others do not. If an example calls for a specific model, the model is either used in SOLIDWORKS Simulation online tutorials or other examples and should not be saved if running the example modifies it.

  • The use of persistent IDs is more likely to get the proper entities' selections when the geometry of the model is changed. An executable (pidcollector.exe) is provided in install_dir\api to help you get the persistent IDs of selected entities. See Getting Started for details.

  • All of the examples are provided on an as-is basis and are only intended to demonstrate ways of using the SOLIDWORKS Simulation API. No representations or warranties are made regarding these samples. Any licensed user of SOLIDWORKS Simulation is free to use any or all of these samples in connection with building applications related to SOLIDWORKS Simulation and is granted a royalty-free non-exclusive license for these samples, or parts thereof. Intellectual property rights of the samples remain with SOLIDWORKS Corporation. Any confidentiality provisions of the SOLIDWORKS license apply to the samples.
