This topic explains the different types of pages.
Cover page
The cover page is a specific drawing that cannot include a schematic.
As you can organize your electrical project any way you want (using books and
folders), you can manage as many cover pages as you need and at any point in your
electrical project.
Line diagram drawing
Line diagrams let you draw the cables for the installation. When you open a line
diagram, the Line diagram menu becomes active and displays
commands for creating a cabling scheme.
The graphic elements used in this type of drawing are saved in the electrical project
database.
Scheme drawing
You create detailed schematicsfor an installation in the schematic drawing type. When
you open a schematic drawing, the Schematic menu becomes
active and displays commands for creating schematics. The graphic elements used in
this type of drawing are saved in the electrical project database.
PLC modules are inserted automatically on schematic drawings. You can complete these
PLC drawings using commands in the Schematic menu.
Mixed scheme drawing
A mixed scheme is a drawing that can include both a wiring line diagram and a scheme.
You cannot interconnect these two types of elements (for example, you cannot connect
a Scheme type wire and a Wiring line diagram type symbol).
When you open a mixed scheme, both the Line diagram and the
Schematic menu become active.
Terminal strip drawing
Terminal strip drawings are generated automatically by SOLIDWORKS Electrical from the
information stored in the electrical project database and the configuration
parameters.
You cannot add schematic or line diagrams elements, and you can only use commands in
the Draw or Modify menus to complete
the graphical details. If you add graphical elements, verify the drawing after an
update of the terminal strip.
Report drawing
Reports drawings are created automatically by SOLIDWORKS Electrical from information
stored in the electrical project database and the configuration parameters.
You cannot add schematic or line diagram elements, and you can only use commands in
the Draw or Modify menus to complete
the graphical details. If you add graphical elements, verify the drawing after an
update of the terminal strip.
2D Cabinet layout drawing
2D Cabinet layout drawings are generated automatically by SOLIDWORKS Electrical when
you use the 2D cabinet layout command. 2D cabinet layout
drawings correspond to different locations of the electrical project.
When you open a 2D cabinet layout drawing, the 2D cabinet
layout menu becomes active and displays commands for creating the
cabinet layout.
You can also use the Draw or Modify
menus. Elements that you place using the commands in these menus are not stored in
the database as they are for graphic purposes only.
SOLIDWORKS files
The SOLIDWORKS files are generated automatically while using the Automatic SOLIDWORKS
drawings generation command. The SOLIDWORKS files correspond to the locations of the
electrical project.
They cannot be opened in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic graphic interface, but
are meant for use in SOLIDWORKS, for the 3D cabinet layout.
Data files
SOLIDWORKS Electrical lets you add different document types to an electrical project,
such as DWG/DXF, Word, or Excel files. These files are copied into the electrical
project, but you cannot open them in the graphic interface. They open with the app
that is associated with the file type on your computer.
