Flakes Parameter Group

The Flakes group contains parameters for metallic flake effects, often used in car paints.

Flake Coverage

Name Flake Coverage
Type Decimal
Range [0..1]
Usage Uniform Value or Grayscale Texture
Description Flake Coverage controls the density of metallic flakes in car paints or grainy metals, measured on a scale from 0 to 1.

A value of 0 indicates no flakes. A value of 1 means complete coverage. As Flake Coverage increases, the overall color of the surface becomes closer to the Flake Color.

Flake Color

Name Flake Color
Type RGB color
Range R: [0..255], G: [0..255], B: [0..255]
Usage Uniform Value or Color Texture
Description Flake Color specifies the overall color of the metallic flakes.

Flake Size

Name Flake Size
Type Decimal
Range [0..∞]
Usage Uniform Value or Grayscale Texture
Description Adjust the size using the spinner or enter a value larger than 0. You are not limited to values between 0 and 1.

Flake Roughness

Name Flake Roughness
Type Decimal
Range [0..1]
Usage Uniform Value or Grayscale Texture
Description Flake Roughness controls the orientation of the metallic flakes, on a scale from 0 to 1.

A value of 0 indicates a uniform orientation that yields a maximum of the Flake Color, while a value of 1 indicates a very random orientation of the flakes.

Flip Flop

Name Flip Flop
Type Decimal
Range [0..1]
Usage Uniform Value or Grayscale Texture
Description Flip Flop defines the visibility of the Flip Flop Color, on a scale from 0 to 1. In addition, Flip Flop depends on the amount of Flake coverage. If Flake Coverage is 0, then Flip Flop has no effect.

A value of 0 indicates that Flip Flop Color is not visible on flakes, regardless of viewing direction or light source. A value of 1 indicates that Flip Flop Color is the main color of the flakes. To mix Flake Color with Flip Flop Color, use values between 0 and 1.

Flip Flop Color

Name Flip Flop Color
Type RGB color
Range R: [0..255], G: [0..255], B: [0..255]
Usage Uniform Value or Color Texture
Description Flip Flop Color adds a second flake color that simulates pearlescent or chameleon effects commonly used in car paints.

Both the Flip Flop and Flake Coverage parameters influence the quantity of Flip Flop Color.
