Creating and Placing Part References

Use the AM_PartReference command to create a Part Reference and place it in the graphics area.

Part References mark a geometry as a part to be included in a Bill of Material (BOM).

To create and place Part References:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the ribbon, click Mechanical Annotate > BOM > PR Create.
    • On the menu, click Mechanical Annotate > BOM > Create Part Reference.
    • Type AM_PartReference.
  2. In the graphics area, specify an entity to reference and press Enter.

You can also specify a location in the graphics area without attaching the Part Reference to any geometry.

Optionally specify an option (Block, Copy or Reference).

  3. In the Part Reference dialog box, specify the component properties of the Part Reference.

See Part Reference / Edit Part Reference dialog box.

  4. Click OK.

The Part Reference symbol appears attached to the specified entity.

Note: Part References are placed on a specific layer (By default, AM_12)

Part References Creation Options

Block

Lets you attach a Part Reference to a Block. If the block have Blockattributes that have the same name as component properties, the Part Reference automatically imports the corresponding values.

Running this option is equivalent to executing the AM_PartReferenceBlock command. See Attaching Part References to Blocks.

Copy

Lets you creates a complete copy of a Part Reference, including its component property data. The copied Part Reference becomes a new BOM item.

Reference

Lets you create a Part Reference that identifies an object as another instance of a part that already has a Part Reference.

The new Part Reference increases the quantity of the corresponding entry in the BOM instead of adding another line.

Specify the Part Reference from which you want to add another instance.

Access

Command: AM_PartReference

Menu: Mechanical Annotate > BOM > Create Part Reference
