You can fix the position of a component so that it cannot move with respect to the assembly origin. By default, the first part in an assembly is fixed; however, you can float it at any time.
		
			
			 In the Insert Component PropertyManager, you can select
					Only fix first component, Fix, or
					Float for component positions.
			
			In
				an assembly, specify at least one assembly component
				that
				is either fixed, or mated to the assembly planes or origin. This
				component
				gives a frame of reference for all other mates, and helps prevent
				unexpected movement of components when
				you add
				mates. 
					- A fixed component has a (f) before its name in the FeatureManager design tree. 
- A floating, under defined component has a (-) before its name in the FeatureManager
						design tree. 
- A fully defined component does not have a prefix. 
 You cannot fix or float an instance in a
					component pattern.
