Opening Content from the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

In SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected, you can browse for and open existing content from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Filters let you specify the type of content to show.

You can open content from different sources, including the SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected app, the 3DEXPERIENCE widget, a web browser, or a local computer.

Supported data types include:

  • SOLIDWORKS Visualize project files (.SVPJ)
  • SOLIDWORKS part files (.SLDPRT)
  • SOLIDWORKS assembly files (.SLDASM)

To open content from the SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected app:

  1. Click File > Open.

    The Open dialog box opens, and recent SOLIDWORKS content appears in the 3DSearch results box.

  2. In the dialog box, to filter the results, you can:
    • Type in the Search filter box.
    • Use the quick filter options to view:
      SOLIDWORKS Visualize project files (.SVPJ)
      SOLIDWORKS part files (.SLDPRT)
      SOLIDWORKS assembly files (.SLDASM)
  3. Select an item and click Open or drag it into the SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected app.
You can also open projects from the SOLIDWORKS Visualize home screen. Recent Projects lists recently opened projects from a local computer and from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

To open content from the 3DEXPERIENCE widget:

  1. Open the SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected app.
  2. In the 3DEXPERIENCE widget, search for the content in 3DSearch.
  3. Drag the content into the SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected viewport or right-click the content and click Open With > SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected.

To open content from a web browser:

  1. In a web browser, open the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
  2. In 3DSearch, search for the content.
  3. Right-click the content and click Open With > SOLIDWORKS Visualize Connected.

To open content from a local computer:

  1. Click File > Open.

    The Open dialog box opens, and recent SOLIDWORKS content appears in the 3DSearch results box.

  2. In the dialog box, in the lower left, click Open from This PC.

    The link is available if nothing is selected in the 3DSearch results.
