The set of pliers shown below is used to tighten a bolt. It is desired to
calculate the stresses when the process is just
starting.
The bolt provides a torsional stiffness of 200 lb.in/rad to the pliers. Forces to secure
the grip and prevent slipping are applied to the handles. A couple of forces are applied
on opposite faces of the handles to rotate the bolt.
