Pliers Defined Using Pins

The set of pliers shown below is used to tighten a bolt. It is desired to calculate the stresses when the process is just starting.

The bolt provides a torsional stiffness of 200 lb.in/rad to the pliers. Forces to secure the grip and prevent slipping are applied to the handles. A couple of forces are applied on opposite faces of the handles to rotate the bolt.

In this lesson, you learn the following:

  • Defining a pin connector between initially contacting faces
  • Specifying the resistance of the pin to rotation
  • Listing pin forces
