Study Type

Nonlinear static with large displacement formulation

Mesh Type

Shell mesh - Thin shell formulation

Mesh Size

Use a standard mesh with global element size of 5 mm.

Shell Parameters

Shell thickness = 1.7 mm - Thin shell formulation

Material Properties

  • Modulus of elasticity (E) = 2.0 x 105 MPa
  • Poisson's ratio (ν) = 0.3
  • Mass density (ρ) = 7700 kg/m3

Results

Plot the variation of tip deflection (UZ) with the applied load.

Define Workflow Sensitive sensors at the vertices of the edge where load is applied. Process the results of the analysis using a graphing software to generate the graph.

The Y-axis shows applied load in Newtons and the X-axis shows tip deflection in mm.

The force-deflection curve agrees with the finite element solution provided in the reference.
