Defining Contact Between Model Faces

You define two contact sets for component faces that may contact each other during the simulation.

To define contact for the O-ring:

  1. In the Simulation study tree, right-click the Connections icon and select Local Interaction.
  2. In the PropertyManager, do the following:
    1. For Type, select Contact.
    2. Click in the Faces, Edges, Vertices for Set 1 box and do the following:
      • Right-click the face of the O-ring that is tangent to the lower face of the Top_plate and choose Select Tangency.

        The faces highlighted in the figure are selected.

      • Rotate the model and select the side face that is not selected by Select Tangency. A total of seven O-ring faces are selected.

    3. Under Type, click in the Faces for Set 2 box and do the following:
      • Select the lower face of the Top_Plate.
      • Right-click any of the Groove faces highlighted in the figure below and choose Select Tangency.
      • Press Ctrl and remove the two horizontal faces of the Groove.
      • Make sure that the eight faces highlighted in pink are selected.

    4. Under Advanced, select Node to surface.
    5. Click .
