Setting the Properties of the Nonlinear Study

There are many parameters that need to be specified to control the solution and the output of the nonlinear study. You set these parameters after creating the study.

To set the properties of the study:

  1. In the Study 1 study tree, right-click the top icon and select Properties.
  2. In the Nonlinear - Static dialog box, on the Solution tab, do the following:
    1. Set End time to 20.
    2. Under Time increment, click Fixed and type 2 in the value box.
This means that there will be 10 solution steps. Each step will use the loads and boundary conditions as specified by the associated time curve. In this lesson, only the load will vary (in a linear fashion) during the solution as described in the following procedures.
    3. Under Geometry nonlinearity options, make sure that Use large displacement formulation is selected.
  3. Click Advanced Options. Verify that under Method, Control is set to Force and Iterative technique is set to NR (Newton-Raphson).
  4. Click OK.
