Defining Vertical Cylinder as Composite Shell

To define the vertical cylinder of the T-Joint as a composite shell:

  1. In the Partial study tree, right-click the vertical cylindrical shell SurfaceBody 2(Surface-Extrude2) and click Edit Definition.
  2. In the PropertyManager, under Type, select Composite.
  3. Under Composite Options:
    1. Set Total Plies to 8.
    2. Select All Plies Same Material and click Select Material .
    3. In the Material dialog box, do the following:
      • Right-click the tjoint folder under Custom Materials and click New Material.
      • For Model Type, select Linear Elastic Orthotropic.
      • Set Units to SI - N/m^2 (Pa).
      • Enter Composite1 for Name.
      • Set Default failure criterion to Unknown.
      • Enter the following material properties for the composite shells:
        Property Value
        Elastic Modulus in X 40e9
        Elastic Modulus in Y 10e9
        Elastic Modulus in Z 10e9
