Running the Fatigue Analysis and Viewing Results

  1. Before you run the study, add a reference point for Matrix Chart Locations in Result Options to plot the Rainflow matrix chart.
  2. Right-click Fatigue_study and select Run .
The program creates a Results folder where fatigue result plots are created.
  3. Right-click the Results folder and select Define Fatigue Plot .
  4. Under Plot Type, select Damage.
  5. Click .
The Damage percentage plot is displayed.

The results for the damage factor indicate that the specified event consumes about 0.018 % of the life of the landing gear. The maximum damage shows as 1.823= x 10-4.

The damage plot shows that the axle is likely to fail due to fatigue after 1 / (max damage) = 1 / 1.823 x 10 -4 = 5,487 blocks (repeats) of the specified variable-amplitude loading event.

This result is verified by the total life plot as shown in the next procedure.

  6. Right-click the Results folder and select Define Fatigue Plot .
  7. Under Plot Type, select Life.
  8. Click .
The Total Life plot is displayed.

Select Flip in Fatigue Plot > Color Options to reverse the color mapping order. The smallest total life is 5,487 as calculated above.
