Creating Smart Components

Open the training assembly to define the Smart Component.

1. Download and extract the sample files for this tutorial:
   1. Click here to download smartcomponents.zip to your Downloads folder.
      For more information on downloading and managing sample files, see Sample Files.
   2. Browse to the Downloads folder and extract smartcomponents.zip to a convenient location.
      For example, to organize your tutorial sample files, create a folder in your Documents folder named tutorial_files. Then extract into that folder to create a subfolder named smartcomponents that contains a SOLIDWORKS assembly file named pillow_block.SLDASM.
   3. Open pillow_block.SLDASM.
   

   The training assembly is shown in an exploded view to facilitate component selection.
2. Click Tools > Make Smart Component or click Make Smart Component (Assembly toolbar).
3. Select the bearing for Smart Component .
   

   The bearing (the component that you are making smart) is highlighted.

4. Select the cap screws, lock washers, and flat washers for Components .
   

   The cap screws, lock washers, and flat washers are components that you want to associate with the selected bearing.
