Opening and Editing a File in SOLIDWORKS Connected

In this lesson, you lock a part on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, work on it, save it back to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and unlock it.

Before modifying a file, you should lock it to reserve it. Locking the file prevents other members of the team from modifying the part while you are working on it.

To open a file on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform:

  1. Click File > Open .
  2. In the Open dialog box, select a thumbnail of the part in the Recent pane and click Open.

Thumbnails of models saved on the platform have a cloud in the left corner.

  3. With the file open, right-click it in MySession and select Lock.
  4. Hover over the Status in MySession.

The tooltip identifies the part as locked by me.

  5. Continue editing the part in SOLIDWORKS Connected.

The tooltip under Status shows that the file is being modified in session.

  6. Right-click the part in MySession and click Save with Options.

You can also select Save. This command saves the file to the local cache on your computer. It is helpful when you want to save edits quickly.

  7. To release the file, right-click the part in MySession again and click Unlock.

When you save the modified file to the platform, unlock it. Unlocking releases the file and lets other members of your team access it in the collaborative space.

MySession updates the status with the unlocked icon.
