Modify Local Thickness PropertyManager

You can overwrite the part thickness assigned automatically by the software.

To open the Modify Local Thickness PropertyManager, do one of the following:

  • In the PlasticsManager, right-click Shell Mesh , and click Modify Local Thickness .
  • In the Plastics CommandManager, under Create Mesh, click Modify Local Thickness.

The software uses an internal algorithm to estimate the part thickness for use in the Shell analysis procedure only. This is a virtual thickness. You can select mesh faces and overwite this value to modify the local thickness.

The graphics area displays a contour plot of the part thickness assigned by the software.

Select and Specify

Select through Enables the selection of surface mesh faces on either side of a thin part. In the graphics area, drag the pointer from left to right to define a box selection to select surface mesh faces.
The software applies half of the specified thickness value to the selected faces. To apply the full value, you must select this option.
Thickness Specifies a thickness value for the selected faces.
Apply Applies the given thickness to the surface mesh faces you selected. After clicking Apply, the contour plot displays the updated thickness values.
Deselect All Removes the selection of the surface faces highlighted by the box selection in the graphics area.
Reset Removes the selection of the highlighted surface mesh faces.

Iso-Clipping Display Options

Maximum Thickness Sets the maximum value of thickness shown on the active plot. Values larger than the maximum thickness are excluded.
Minimum Thickness Sets the minimum value of thickness shown on the active plot. Values smaller than the minimum thickness are excluded.

Report Options

X-Y Plot Creates a plot of the selected nodes versus their thickness values. Use the Measure tool to select nodes on the part for listing the assigned local thickness.
