Previous Release Check Dialog Box

Before you can save documents as a previous version of SOLIDWORKS, you must manually address incompatible items, as described below.

When you save a document that has incompatible items as a previous version, the Previous Release Check dialog box appears. For example, saving SOLIDWORKS 2024 to SOLIDWORKS 2022 lists items that are not compatible with SOLIDWORKS 2022.

Use this dialog box to determine if there are incompatible items that you must manually address before saving as a previous release.
To open this dialog box at any time, click Tools > Evaluate > Previous Release Check .
Item Description
Previous Release Specifies the release to which to save the SOLIDWORKS document. You can switch releases and the lists update.
Update Refreshes the Incompatible Items list.

Lists items that are incompatible with the selected previous version. If you remove or edit the incompatible items, it might change the mass properties, size, shape, or rebuild behavior of the model.

You must manually address these items before saving the document as a previous version of SOLIDWORKS. In some instances, you must delete the incompatible item. In other instances, changing a feature option might address the incompatible item.

The list of incompatible items is in the order that they first appear in the FeatureManager design tree.

Other Items tab

Lists non-feature-based items that are not supported by or available with the selected previous version. The software automatically modifies or deletes these items when you complete the save process.

Examples:
  • Annotations
  • Appearances, decals, scenes, and lights
  • Custom properties
  • Data saved in the document to support an add-in
  • Explode steps
