Route with Clips

Clips and virtual clips make creating routes for tubing and electrical designs much easier.

The easiest way to model an electrical harness is to use clips. In an electrical design, wires and cables usually need to be fastened to provide support and to prevent them from moving around. First, positioning clips and then, passing wires through clips, by using the Route/Edit through Clip command or the AutoRoute tool, provides an easy mechanism for creating and editing a route.

You can:
  • Use clip parts or clip assemblies to support different routing needs.
  • Model clips with multiple configurations. As you add more wires to the harness, the bundle diameter increases. If the diameter becomes too large for the clip, the clip resizes.
  • Use virtual clips if the design does not include clips or if clip models are unavailable. Virtual clips have no geometry and are excluded from the bill of materials.
  • Route with clips using the Route/Edit through Clip command or the AutoRoute tool.
  • Add routing points (RPoints) to clip parts or clip assemblies to define wire, cable, or hose alignment.
