Convergence Diagnostic Plot PropertyManager

The Convergence Diagnostics Plot detects regions of the model where the solver has encountered contact convergence issues.

To access the Convergence Diagnostic Plot:

  • Click Diagnostic Tools > Convergence Diagnostic Plot (Simulation CommandManager), or
  • In a simulation study tree, right-click Results and click Define Convergence Diagnostic Plot.
Display The plot shows the critical and safe regions of the model with respect to the status of contact convergence and the normalized displacement correction. Move the slider toward Critical to view regions of the model where the solver did not reach contact convergence and have high values for the normal displacement correction.

The plot legend displays the volume ratio of the elements for which contact convergence is achieved over the total elements that participate in the formulation of contact interactions.

The normal displacement correction is the ratio at the final contact iteration number of the total incremental nodal displacement vector over the total nodal displacement vector.

  • Before you run the analysis, you can verify the contact interaction areas defined by the global-level and local-level interaction settings with the Interaction Viewer PropertyManager.
  • Check the clearance between parts that come into contact. Parts that have clearance larger than the threshold value (defined in the Local Interactions PropertyManager) do not qualify for contact at a local level.
