Image To File
You can render an image or a scene to a file. You can also schedule
batch renderings.
To render an image to a file:
Click Render
to File (PhotoWorks toolbar) or PhotoWorks,
Render to File.
The field of view box appears in the graphics
area so that you can assess how the model
will appear in the output.
Set the following options:
You should chose the file
type based on the capabilities of your post-production software and the
desired end result. For example, if you want to use a high-end graphics
program such as Adobe® PhotoShop® to create composite images, you should
chose a file format that has alpha channel support for transparency. When
PhotoWorks images are rendered to the proper file format, alpha channel
information is captured and stored in the file.
The alpha channel is an 8-bit channel, which means it has 256 levels of
gray from 0 (black) to 255 (white). The level of gray in the alpha channel
determines the level of transparency. For example, 50 percent gray allows
for 50 percent transparency. TARGA
and TIFF file formats support
the alpha channel. In addition, Portable Network Graphics (PNG),
while it does not support the alpha channel, does support transparency.
Image size.
Set the size of the exported image by setting the following:
Select Pixels,
Centimeters, or Inches
to set the units. If you select Inches,
you can also set the resolution in the dots
per inch box.
Type a value in the Width
and Height boxes to set the size.
Select Fixed aspect ratio
to retain the original proportions of the image when you change
Width or Height.
Select one:
Use camera aspect
ratio. Available when at least one camera is defined.
Custom
aspect ratio. Select or type the new ratio. Adjust this ratio to
display the model with a different field of view in the output. When you
supply a new value, the graphics area provides a preview of the result.
Image Quality.
The Image Quality controls are
available for certain image formats, as follows:
JPEG.
Set the quality to Low, Medium, High,
or Custom. When you select Custom, you can drag the slider from
Low to High.
Targa
or TIFF. Select the
Compress using run length encoding
check box if you want to compress the image file.
Encapsulated
Postscript or Postscript.
Select Color or Grayscale.
Click Render
to export the rendered image to the selected file format.
To render a scene to a file:
Click Render
to File (PhotoWorks toolbar) or PhotoWorks,
Render to File.
Type a name in the File
name box, and set the Format
to mental ray scene file (*.mi).
Click Render to create a file containing the SolidWorks
geometry and the associated appearances, lights, and scene.
