Combining Dimensions

To fully constrain a part, you must often apply the same dimension and geometric tolerance to two or more features. You can combine dimensions and geometric tolerances into a single specification using the shortcut menu.

To combine location dimensions:

  1. Open a model with dimensions to combine. For example, you can combine the three dimensions into one.

When combining location dimensions, they must all have the same origin feature.

  1. Ctrl + select the three dimensions from left to right.

  2. Right-click and select Combine Dimension.

The dimensions combine into one at the last selected dimension, with an instance count automatically added.

To return dimensions to individual dimensions, right-click the combined dimension and select Break Combined Dimension. To combine or break geometric tolerances, the options are Combine Gtol and Break Combined Gtol.

To combine size dimensions and geometric tolerances:

  1. Open a model with size dimensions and geometric tolerances to combine. For example, you can combine the three dimensions into one.

  2. Ctrl + select the two size dimensions from left to right.

  3. Right-click and click Combine Dimension.

The dimensions combine into one at the last selected dimension, with an instance count automatically added.

When combining only geometric tolerances, right-click and click Combine Gtol. When combining geometric tolerances, the applied symbols, tolerances, and datums must be the same.
