Replacing Broken References

You can repair a broken reference by replacing it with a reference to another file from the vault or a reference to a file that is outside the vault.

For example, you may not be able to locate a broken reference in the vault by using Find File. Instead, you can use Replace File to change the reference to point to a vault file with a different name, or search for the file outside the vault.

You can only replace one file at a time.
  1. Select a file with a broken reference.
  2. Click Tools > Update References.

The Update Reference dialog box opens, listing all references and identifying those that are missing.

  3. Select a reference to replace and click Edit > Replace File.
  4. In the Replace File dialog box, browse to the file that will replace the broken reference.
  5. Click Open.
  6. If you replaced the broken reference with a file that is outside the vault:
    1. Select the replacement file.
    2. Click Add Files to Vault (toolbar).
    3. In the Add Files to Vault dialog box, select the folder to add the file to.
    4. Click Next.
    5. Ensure that the file is being added to the correct location and click Finish.
    6. In the verification message, click OK.
  7. In the Update References dialog box, click Update.
  8. Click OK.
