ISelectByRay Method (IModelDoc2)

Selects the first object of the specified type that is intersected by a ray from point (x,y,z in meters) in direction vector (x,y,z) within a distance radius.

.NET Syntax

Visual Basic (Declaration)
Function ISelectByRay( _
   ByRef PointIn As Double, _
   ByRef VectorIn As Double, _
   ByVal RadiusIn As Double, _
   ByVal TypeWanted As Integer _
) As Boolean
Visual Basic (Usage)
Dim instance As IModelDoc2
Dim PointIn As Double
Dim VectorIn As Double
Dim RadiusIn As Double
Dim TypeWanted As Integer
Dim value As Boolean
value = instance.ISelectByRay(PointIn, VectorIn, RadiusIn, TypeWanted)
bool ISelectByRay(
   ref double PointIn,
   ref double VectorIn,
   double RadiusIn,
   int TypeWanted
bool ISelectByRay(
&   double% PointIn,
&   double% VectorIn,
&   double RadiusIn,
&   int TypeWanted

Array containing 3 doubles that define the start point of the ray
Array containing 3 doubles that define the direction of the ray

Radius of the ray in meters

Type of objects to select as defined in swSelectType_e

Return Value

True if an object was selected, false if not

This method:

  • Defines a cylindrical region of infinite length that begins at pointIn, runs parallel to VectorIn, and has a radius of RadiusIn. If you specified edge or vertex entities, then the first edge or vertex found within the selection cylinder is selected.

  • Only selects entity objects, which include faces, edges, vertices, and so on. You cannot select ISketch objects using this method.

  • Does not support the selection of silhouette edges.

Only a single entity is selected within the distance radius regardless of multiple entities existing within that radius. For selecting face entities, RadiusIn is ignored and a cylinder of infinitely small radius is used.

Use model space view to determine the selection vector in a drawing.
