Capturing Dimensions and Features

To use DriveWorksXpress, you first add a SolidWorks model to the DriveWorksXpress database and then identify the parameters to control when generating variations.

  1. Click Tools > DriveWorksXpress.
  2. Select Add/Edit Models and click .
  3. Select from the list of Models already in DriveWorksXpress or select Use current open model and click .
  4. On the Captured Assembly Structure tab, select the parts to capture and click Capture if it is not already selected.
  5. On the Captured Models tab, double-click a part in the DriveWorksXpress tree to open the part.

    You capture dimensions and features in the part rather than in the assembly.

  6. Select the Dimensions and Features tab.
  7. Double-click a feature in the SolidWorks FeatureManager design tree.

    The dimensions appear in the graphics area.

  8. Double-click a dimension.

    On the Dimensions and Features tab, the name of the selected item appears in Address.

  9. Type text in Name and click Add.

    The dimension and name appear under the Dimensions folder on the Dimensions and Features tab.

  10. Repeat these steps to capture additional dimensions and features from this part or others.
