Data Cards

Data cards contain metadata about the files, folders, items, and templates in the vault database. Because data card information is stored centrally, users can quickly search and locate information about files, folders, items, and templates without needing local copies.

As an administrator, you can customize data cards to:
  • Prompt users for information during various stages of the workflow process or when adding files or items.
  • Provide a search mechanism for users.
  • Programmatically generate file and folder names for users by applying formulas to the input fields they enter.

By adding controls such as text fields, list boxes, check boxes, and tabs, you can use data cards to manage the design process.

    Open the card editor to create and manage data cards that let users view and modify information stored in the vault database.

    To modify a data card, you must have permission to update the design of cards for the folder containing the card.

    In a resizable search card, use the Glue tool bar to specify that card controls remain a constant distance from the sides of the search card.

  • Exporting a Data Card

    You can export a data card to re-use it in another vault or create a backup copy. All controls, variables, images, and central lists are included in the export file.

  • Importing a Data Card

    You can import an exported data card. You can also import one of the default cards installed with Enterprise PDM to restore default values.

  • Creating a Search Card Using an SQL List

    In this example, you use a central SQL list to show existing project numbers stored in the vault.

  • Input Formulas

    You can add an input formula to an edit box control so that the values users select for other controls on the data card are displayed in the edit box.

  • Working with Controlled Tabs

    You can manage the behavior of data card tabs by using the Controlled by Variable option.

  • Assigning Default Values

    For many card controls, you can assign a default value to automatically fill in the control variable when a user saves a new file or item or adds it to the vault.

  • Card Editor Controls Toolbar

    Use the Controls toolbar to add controls to a data card. Set properties for the control using the options in the control's properties pane.
