File Explorer Interface

When you log in to a vault, the Enterprise PDM user interface is integrated with Windows Explorer, with added menu options, toolbar buttons, and dialog boxes.

The navigation pane on the left lets you browse vaults and folders.

The Windows Explorer toolbar and Enterprise PDM menu bar give you access to commands and features that are available for vault files or folders you select in the right pane.

Display menu options let you choose which of three right pane views is displayed.

Show Files Lists vault folders and files in the upper section of the right pane.

This is the default view, also known as File View.

Tabs in the lower section of the right pane let you preview files and display file details like data cards and version information.
Show Bills of Materials Lists named Bills of Materials (BOMs) and activated computed BOMs in the current folder.

The lower section of the pane displays BOM information for the selected BOM.
Show Search Results Opens the search card that was used most recently in the current folder.

The center section of the right pane lists the results.

Tabs in the lower section of the pane let you view information about files you select in the results list.

To change the right pane view, click Display and select the view to display.

  • Navigation Pane

    The navigation pane on the left lets you browse vaults and folders for all Windows Explorer views.

  • Windows Explorer Toolbar

    The Windows Explorer toolbar contains commands that apply to the vault files or folders you select in the right pane.

  • Enterprise PDM Menu Bar

    The Enterprise PDM menu bar contains navigation buttons and menus of commands that can be performed for the selected file or folder.

  • File View

    When you open a SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM vault, the folders and documents stored in the vault are listed in the File View in the upper section of the right pane. Select a document to see a preview and access tabs with details.

  • Search View

    Use search view to display file and folder searches directly in Windows Explorer.

  • BOM View

    BOM view lists the activated and named BOMs in the current folder and lets you view and modify their details.

  • Switching Views

    File View displays files and folders. You can instead display bills of materials or a search form and results.
