Creating Model Break Views

You can create model break views in parts or assemblies.

To create model break views:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Click Insert > Model Break View.
    • Click Model Break View (SOLIDWORKS MBD toolbar).
    • In the ConfigurationManager , right-click a configuration and click New Model Break View .

In the graphics area, two planes appear that break the model. Handles on the planes let you manipulate the size of the region that is cut from the model.

  2. In the PropertyManager, under Alignment:
    1. Choose the plane and rotation angle for the break.

You can also select a plane, planar face, cylindrical face, linear edge, or axis to determine the plane orientation. If you select a cylindrical face, linear edge, or axis, the default plane for the break is normal to the cylinder, linear edge, or axis.

To see the effect of your choices, select Preview.

    2. Optionally, specify an X Angle or Y Angle to rotate the break planes.
  3. In the graphics area, use the handles to move the red and green planes to adjust the amount of material removed by the break.

You can also specify the Break Size in the PropertyManager.

  4. In the PropertyManager, under Model Break Steps, click Apply to create the first break step.

A break appears where you placed the break lines.

After you create a break step, you can modify it by clicking on it.

  5. To add a second break step, under Model Break Steps, click Add Step.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 4 to specify the details of the second break step.
  7. To specify the style of the break pattern, in the PropertyManager:
    1. Click the Styles tab.
    2. Under Style, select a style, for example, Zig-Zag Break .
    3. If you select a style other than straight break, for Method, select one of the following:

Continuous Break Pattern cut across the entire model.
Individual Break Pattern cut across each body.

For straight breaks, the method is always a continuous break.

    4. Optionally, under Properties, modify the size of the break gap.
    5. If you select a style other than straight, you can modify the Intensity and rotation Angle of the cut pattern.

The choices you make on the Style tab apply to all break steps.

  8. Click .

If dimensions are displayed, they remain the same when the break is applied.

A new derived configuration, Model Break Viewn, with the number of break steps you created, is added to the ConfigurationManager.
