Creating Views with the Administration Tool

To create a vault view using the Administration tool:

  1. Start the Administration tool by doing one of the following:
    • On Windows 7 and Windows Server systems prior to Windows Server 2012, from the Windows Start menu, select All Programs > SOLIDWORKS PDM > Administration .
    • On Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 or later, on the Apps screen, under SOLIDWORKS PDM, click Administration.
  2. If you are not logged in:
    1. Right-click the vault in the left pane, then click Connect.
    2. Type the user login information, then click Log In.
  3. If the archive server you want to work with is not listed, add it as described in Adding an Archive Server.
  4. Right-click the vault, then select Create local view.
  5. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the folder in which to create the vault view, then click OK.

Choose a folder local to your computer, possibly the root folder of the local hard drive.

  6. At the prompt asking whether to make the vault view accessible for all users on this computer, do one:
    • Click Yes to create a shared vault view that is accessible to all Windows profiles on this computer. This is the preferred choice for normal workstations.
    • Click No to create a vault view that is accessible only to the user profile logged in when creating the vault view, for example, for example when multiple user profiles are working on the same Windows system and need access to their individual vault view. Place the local vault view in a user folder that is only accessible to the currently logged-in profile.

After the local vault view is created, a Windows Explorer window opens and a login dialog box is displayed.

  7. In the login dialog box, type a user name and password, and click Log In.

Ensure that the user name is for an account that is enabled in the vault.

A Windows Explorer window opens, displaying the SOLIDWORKS PDM user interface in the right pane.
