The SOLIDWORKS PDM add-in for AutoCAD lets you access the vault without using Windows Explorer.
The AutoCAD add-in allows many people to work on the same assembly concurrently; it manages all drawing xrefs and makes sure loaded xrefs are up-to-date.

Activate the AutoCAD add-in to access source control and workflow tools without using Windows Explorer. The add-in is installed automatically on the specified AutoCAD version during SOLIDWORKS PDM installation.
Two toolbars manage drawings and xrefs stored in a SOLIDWORKS PDM vault.
You can right-click xrefs and select commands from the shortcut menu. Items available depend on access rights, selected xrefs, and the current mode of the files.
The status window shows information about the active drawing and its xrefs.
You can use the AutoCAD command line for SOLIDWORKS PDM source control and workflow commands.
