User Properties - General Properties

Use the user's Properties dialog box to manage users and their rights in a SOLIDWORKS PDM vault.

To display the user's Properties dialog box:

  • For an existing user account, expand the Users node and double-click the user.
  • For multiple users, select the users, right-click, and select Properties.
    The user's Properties dialog box indicates that more than one user is selected.
  • When creating or adding user accounts:
    • Right-click Users and select New User.
    • Create the user account and click Next.

To represent the user in file data cards, workflow actions, templates, and so on, enter specific information about the selected user in the user data fields.

Left Pane Controls

The top of the left pane identifies the user and lets you include a user photo.

The left pane links open screens where you configure group membership, user permissions, and user access to tools like search cards and tasks.

Additional links open other dialog boxes where you can set the user password, send email, and change user settings.

Browse for picture Opens the Browse for picture dialog box, where you can navigate to a picture to include on the user's pop-up card.
Save Picture Opens the Save picture dialog box, where you can save the current user picture.
Delete Picture Deletes the current user picture.
  User Properties links Displays user properties screens, where you can do the following:
Groups

Add the user to an existing SOLIDWORKS PDM group.

Administrative Permissions

Set the permissions that control the administrative tasks the user can perform.

Folder Permissions

View and assign folder permissions.

State Permissions

Assign the user permission to access files in specific states.

Transaction Permissions

Assign the user permission to run specific transitions.

Permissions per File

Select whether all users or specific groups can see files created by this user.

Search Cards

Set the user's access to vault search cards.

Bills of Materials

Set the user's access to BOMs defined for the vault.

Tasks

Set the user's access to tasks.

Templates

Set the user's access to vault templates.

Warnings

Specify conditions that will block check in, check out, change state, and increment revision operations.

Set Password Opens the Change Password dialog box, where you can enter and confirm a new password for the user.
You cannot change the user password when the Archive Server login type is Windows login.
Send Mail Opens the SOLIDWORKS PDM email editor.
Settings Opens the user's Settings dialog box, where you can customize the behavior of the SOLIDWORKS PDM client.

Right Pane Fields

Use the fields in the right pane to specify or modify the following user information:

Login name Name the user enters in the login dialog box.

This name cannot be modified. To change the name, create a new user with the correct login name.

Full name The user's full name.

The default is the user's login name.

Initials The user's initials.

The default is the first letter of the user's login name.

E-mail Email address of the user.

Notifications to the user go to this address if the SOLIDWORKS PDM notification system sends notifications through SMTP.

If blank, a user logged into the vault receives notifications through the built-in SOLIDWORKS PDM message system.

User data Additional information about the user.
Column view If custom Windows Explorer column listings are set up, select a default listing for the selected user.

Set up the views using the Columns node.

User Pop-up Information

The lower part of the right pane contains information that is displayed on the user's pop-up card. This card makes it easier for users to communicate with each other. It appears in the SOLIDWORKS PDM client user interface when a user moves the mouse over the name of the person who has a file checked out.

Phone User's phone number.
Cellphone User's cell phone number.
Websites Use the Address column to add up to four Web links that appear on the user's pop-up card.

The Tooltip column is populated automatically using the URLs in the Address column, but you can modify its content.

Presence note Contains a personal note from the user.
Users can enter or edit this note themselves from the SOLIDWORKS PDM menu, accessible from the icon in the Windows notification area.

Secondary Server Secondary SQL server that is configured for the user.
