Bills of Materials

A bill of materials (BOM) is a tabular listing of the components of an Enterprise PDM item or a SolidWorks assembly, drawing, or weldment part.

Item Explorer displays item BOMs and item named BOMs in the Bill of Materials tab. To view other BOM types, use File Explorer.

  • Item BOMs
    Item BOMs are computed BOMs that shows item structure.
  • Named BOMs
    You can save computed BOMs, including item BOMs and SolidWorks BOMs, as named BOMs. Create named BOMs to take a snapshot of the BOM for an assembly, drawing, or item.
  • Comparing BOMs
    You can compare any of the BOMs listed on the Bill of Materials tab, or you can compare different versions of the same BOM. After comparing two BOMs, you can open the BOM comparison data as a .csv file.
  • Searching BOMs
    You can search for text in a BOM.
  • Opening BOMs in Excel
    You can open a BOM in Microsoft Excel.
  • Sorting BOMs
    You can sort the contents of any type of BOM by any column.
