Creating and Removing File References
You can create references between files. When you work on the parent
file, its references are displayed automatically in the preview or in the bill of materials.
Examples:
3D component of a motor with the PDF specification
file
Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with a Microsoft Word
file
Digital image of a building with the renovation
drawing in SolidWorks
To create a reference:
Right-click the parent file and select Check
Out.
Select the files to reference.
Right-click the files and select Copy.
Right-click the parent file and select Paste
as Reference.
In the Create File References dialog box, set
options and click OK.
Right-click the parent file and select Check
In.
To verify the references, select the parent file
and select the Contains tab.
To modify or remove a reference:
Check out the parent file.
On the Contains
tab, click Edit user defined reference
.
In the Edit User-Defined File References dialog
box:
To remove a reference, clear Referenced.
To change whether a referenced file is in
the BOM, select or clear Show in Bill
of Materials.
Click OK.
Check in the parent file.
