Using Menus

When the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM client is installed, new menus options are added to Explorer.

Explorer menus

The options listed are added to Internet Explorer menus when you log in to a vault. Most are only available when you are working on-line.

To display menus in Vista, press ALT.

File Menu

To access the following options, expand the option for the vault:

Delete file vault view

Deletes the whole vault view from Explorer and all local cache files and folders. Your should check in all files and log out of the vault before deleting the vault view.

Clear local cache

Removes from the selected folder and all subfolders all locally cached files that are not checked out.

Copy Tree

Starts the Copy Tree function (see Copy Tree).

Refresh (F5)

Refreshes the Explorer view.

Properties

Reports the properties of the selected file vault view or subfolder in Enterprise PDM (see Folder Properties).

View Menu

Toggle the view of the right pane using these options:

Details

Displays the folder's  file list.

Bill of Materials

Displays the folder's named BOMs.

Tools Menu

Search forms

Specific search forms for which you have permissions. Clicking a form opens the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Search tool with the selected search active.

The search forms listed can include search forms created by your administrator or one or more of these pre-defined forms:

  • Complete Search. Displays tabs where you can select attributes to search for files.

  • Users. Searches for logged in users.

  • Item Quick Search. Filters the search using commonly used item fields.

  • Item Complete Search. Displays tabs where you can select attributes to search for items.

  • Item Property Search. Searches by item data card properties.

Enterprise PDM Search

Opens the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Search tool to let you search vaults for files, folders, items and users.

Enterprise PDM Administration

Opens the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Administration tool to let you change your user settings and password . Your user permissions determine other actions you can take in the Administration tool.

Inbox

Opens the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Inbox so that  you can view notifications and messages.

Report Generator

Opens the Report Generator so that you can run queries to create reports.

Item Explorer

Only available if you installed Item Explorer when you installed the Enterprise PDM client.

Opens Item Explorer so that you can work with items.

Work Off-line/
Work On-line

Toggles between working on-line and working off-line.

  • Off-line. Only files that are in your local cache are visible. These files are not write-able. You cannot add new files to the vault.

  • On-line. You can access all vault files you have permissions for. You can check out, modify, and check-in files. You can add files to the vault.

Help Menu

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Help

Displays the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM File Explorer help in a separate window.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Release Notes

Opens a web browser to the Administration Guide page, which contains a link to the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Release Notes.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM What's New

Opens What's New in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM in the Acrobat viewer .

 

Shortcut Menu for File Vault

Collapse

Collapses the folder tree to one level if it has been expanded.

Explore

Opens a second session of Explorer with the file vault the active folder

Open

Opens a session on My Computer with the vault as the active folder.

Delete file vault view

Deletes the whole vault view from Explorer and all local cache files and folders. Your should check in all files and log out of the vault before deleting the vault view.

Clear local cache

Removes from the selected folder and all subfolders all locally cached files that are not checked out.

Copy Tree

Starts the Copy Tree function (see Copy Tree).

Log in

Initiates login to the file vault.

Shortcut Menu for File

Menu items that appear when you right-click a file in Explorer view include standard Windows Explorer options and additional options specific to Enterprise PDM:

Get Latest Version

Copies the latest version of the file from the archive server to your vault.

Get Version

Displays a numbered list of previous versions of the file for you to select from.

Check in

Checks in the file so that others can edit it.

Check out

Checks out the file for editing.

Undo check out

Cancels a check out.

Label

Adds labels and comment to the History record for this version of the file.

History

Lists file events (for example, state change) with versions, users, dates, and comments.

Change State

Lists all possible state transitions as defined in the current workflow layout; for example, Submit for Approval or No Approval Required.

Notify

Sets up automatic notifications (for example, Me when checked out or Me when state enters) for the selected file. See also Send and receive notifications.

Send To

Lists possible transfer options for the file.

Shortcut Menu for Desktop

When you click the right-mouse button on the Explorer file view desktop (in the blank area outside any file name or icon), a menu that includes the following options is displayed:

View

Toggles viewing options, including:

  • Preview tabs

  • Right or top alignment

  • Horizontal or vertical split

  • Preview types

  • Bill of Materials

Arrange Icons

Lists the order in which the icons can be sorted (for example, by Name, Size, or State).

Notify

Sends a notification to another user or opens the notification editor. The Notify submenu only contains those options that do not require a selected file or folder.

New

Lists the possible file types to create and the installed templates you can access.

Change State

Lists all possible state transitions as defined in the current workflow layout; for example, Submit for Approval or No Approval Required.

Notify

Sets up automatic notifications (for example, Me when checked out or Me when state enters for the selected file. See also Send and receive notifications.

Send To

Lists possible transfer options for the file.
