Using SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Contributor

Enterprise PDM Contributor provides web access to functions similar to those provided by the Enterprise PDM Client software.

Logging In and Out

To log in to a Enterprise PDM web share:

  1. Right-click the file vault name or web share folder and select Log In.

A SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Web license must be available for each user who logs in.

  1. Enter the Enterprise PDM user name and password, then click Log In.

  2. If you are already logged in to a local file vault on the same system, click Yes when asked whether you would like to place the local view in off-line mode.

To log out:

Right-click the file vault name or web share folder and select Log Out.

Folders are shown in blue to indicate that the view is in off-line mode.

Locating Your Working Directory

The local working folder is in the same location as the file vault view if you have Enterprise PDM installed. If you do not have a local vault, the working folder is C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\SolidWorks\SolidWorks Enterprise PDM\Cache\<folder>.

To locate your working directory:

Right-click the web share, select Properties, and note the Location.

The working folder is stored in a folder that is marked as hidden by default and is not visible by browsing unless you set up Windows Explorer to Show hidden files and folders.

Using Contributor Functions

The interface and functions in Contributor are similar to those in your locally installed Enterprise PDM:

  • Select folders in the left pane to display file information in the right pane, including State, Size, Version, and who has Checked Out files.

  • Right-click a file or folder to apply context-sensitive functions.

  • Select files or folders and use toolbar buttons:

Paste files or folders into the selected folder in the vault. The copied files are checked out to you.

Delete from the file vault and from the local working folder.

Get latest version.

Check out for editing.

Check in.

Change file state.

Search for files or folders.

Show the property dialog box and file/folder data card.

Refresh the file listing.

Working with Files in Contributor

Files you retrieve through Contributor stay in the working folder and are not removed or updated automatically.

If a file is checked out to you, you already have the most recent version. When you check out a file, the most recent version is always retrieved.

To retrieve the latest version of a file:

Right-click the file (or the folder containing the files) and select Get Latest Version

To add files:

  • Use standard Widows commands to copy and move files.

  • When a file has been added to the working folder (for example, when saved from an application), it is marked as <Local file>. Right-click and select Add to add it to the file vault.

To change the state of a file:

Right-click the file and select Change State.

You cannot use Contributor to change the state of a file that is physically changed (a property update, for example); you must use Enterprise PDM on a local client.

To search for files or folders:

  1. Click Search  on the toolbar.

  2. Select New Search in the shortcut menu

  3. Select the search form to use.

  4. Fill in search criteria and click Search.

Search Results

  • The most recent search result stays the same, even when you browse to other folders. Refresh the result or run a new search.

  • The search result returns only a 100 rows. To view a larger list, modify the web access page.

  • The version number listed is the most recent version that met the search criteria. It may not be the version that is stored in the cache.
