Inserting TIFF Files

You can import a TIFF image and use it as a background of a part or assembly.

Use Options , Colors, for more streamlined and extensive background image capabilities. Under Background appearance, you can select Image file and browse for background files that include .bmp and .png, as well as .tiff formats. In addition to images, when you use RealView, you can add scenes to models.

The SolidWorks application does not support LZW format compression for TIFF files.

To activate the Picture menu item:

  1. In a part or assembly document, click Insert, Customize Menu.

  2. Select Picture, then click outside the menu.

To import a TIFF file:

  1. Click Insert, Picture.

  2. In the Open dialog box, browse to a file, and click Open.

    The selected file opens as a background image of the part or assembly.

    You can import RGB Full Color and Black & White (Bilevel) images, and you can also import Grayscale and Palette images from other systems.

To turn the display of the TIFF image on or off:

Click View, Display, Picture.

To delete a TIFF image from a document:

Click View, Modify, Picture, Delete.

To replace one TIFF image with another:

  1. Click View, Modify, Picture, Replace.

  2. In the Open dialog box, browse to a TIFF file, and click Open.
