Upgrade Settings

Specify how the upgrade is performed.

Path to SolidWorks

This read-only field shows the path to the SolidWorks executable file. The upgrade utility runs SolidWorks to perform the upgrades.

Comment

Type a comment that describes the upgrade action. The comment appears in the file's history.

A comment is required.

Location of log files

The default location for the log files is the vault you are upgrading.

If you are performing the entire upgrade on the master workstation, you can specify another location for the log files.

If you divide the upgrade work (under Upgrade settings), the location is changed to the \Logs folder in the location you specify for the work instruction files. If the \Logs folder does not exist, you are prompted to let the utility create it.

Upgrade settings

Save pre-2003 drawings with "Automatic update of BOM" After upgrade, if a BOM exists in a drawing, it automatically updates when relevant changes are made to the model.
Ignore files containing missing references Files are not converted if the files they reference are not found in the file vault.
Do complete rebuild (Ctrl+Q) on files Rebuilds the SolidWorks file from the top of the feature tree, instead of rebuilding only features that have changed.

Although this slows performance, it can uncover errors that a normal rebuild would not uncover.

Process files already in target format Files that are already in the format of the SolidWorks version to which you are upgrading are processed.

By default, files that are in the target format are not processed.

If users have saved files using the version of SolidWorks to which you are upgrading, the files were upgraded when they were saved. Use this option to process these files along with other files that are being upgraded and increment the file version numbers.

Divide the upgrade work into multiple work instruction files Distribute the upgrade work by creating work instruction files that can be run on multiple workstations.

See Creating and Using Work Instruction Files

Number of work instruction files to create
You can run more than one work instruction file on a workstation.
Shared location for work instruction files Browse to select a shared folder to which all clients have read/write access. The folder name must be in UNC format.

After the upgrade is completed, the work instruction files are deleted.

If you make a backup of the files before starting the upgrade process, the work instruction files can be re-used. For example, if the upgrade process is stopped on one of the workstations running the upgrade, you can restore the backed up work instruction files and re-run the upgrade.
