Caterpillars
You can manually insert representations of weld beads as end treatments or caterpillar symbols in drawing documents. The caterpillar symbol represents the position and length of a weld bead on a drawing. The symbol comprises repeated circular or linear shapes along an edge.
To automatically insert caterpillar symbols in drawing documents, click Model Items
on the Annotation toolbar or Insert, Model Items and under Annotations, select Caterpillar
.
Adding the caterpillar symbol does not add a weld symbol or weld bead geometry.
To insert a caterpillar symbol to the weldment:
-
In a drawing, click Caterpillar on the Annotation toolbar, or click Insert, Annotations, Caterpillar.
-
In the Caterpillar PropertyManager, select continuous edges or a weld bead.
-
Set properties in the Caterpillar PropertyManager.
In partial length caterpillars, you can drag the handles of the caterpillar to change the length of the symbol.

Click OK .
If you create intermittent or partial caterpillar symbols, you can display and change the dimensions of the welded and non-welded areas. If you change the dimensions, the symbol updates.
