Edge-Flange PropertyManager

You can add edge flanges to one or more edges.

To display this PropertyManager, in a sheet metal part, click Edge Flange Tool_Edge_Flange_Sheet_Metal.gif (Sheet Metal toolbar).

Flange Parameters

PM_sheetmtl_Edge_Flange_Edge.gif Edge Select edges in the graphics area.
To merge bodies in a multibody sheet metal part, select only one edge.
Edge Flange Profile Edit the sketch of the profile.
Use default radius Select or clear.
Use gauge table (Only available if a sheet metal gauge table has been selected for the part) Select or clear.
PM_SM_bend_radius.gif Bend Radius Set a value when Use default radius and Use gauge table are cleared.
PM_Gap_Distance.gif Gap distance Set a value.

Angle

PM_angle.gif Flange Angle Set a value. If you select Up To Edge And Merge for Flange Length to merge two bodies in a multibody part, the angle is locked. Click PM_locked.gif to unlock the angle and change it.
select_face_planar.png Select face Select a face to set the parallel or perpendicular relation for the Flange Angle.
Perpendicular to face Sets the edge flange perpendicular to the face in Select face.
Parallel to face Sets the edge flange parallel to the face in Select face.

Flange Length

Length End Condition Select one of the following:
Blind
Creates the edge flange based on the Length and Direction you specify.
  • Length PM_distance_nonum.gif
  • Reverse Direction PM_reverse_direction.gif. Changes the direction of the edge flange.
  • Outer Virtual Sharp PM_shm_Outer_Virtual_Sharp.gif, Inner Virtual Sharp PM_shm_Inner_Virtual_Sharp.gif, Tangent Bend PM_Tangent_Bend.gif. Specifies the origin for the measurement. A virtual sharp creates a sketch point at the virtual intersection point of two sketch entities. The Tangent Bend option is valid for bends that are greater than 90º and lets you use the tangent length of a flange as the basis for the length calculation. You can type the tangent length without using additional calculations.

Up To Vertex
Creates the edge flange up to a vertex you select in the graphics area. You can create the edge flange normal to the flange plane or parallel to the base flange.
  • Normal to flange plane
The selected vertex is coincident to the end face of the edge flange.
    Parallel to base flange
The selected vertex passes through a plane that is parallel to the face of the base flange.
edge flange normal to flange plane.gif edge_flange_parallel_to_base_flange.gif
Normal to flange plane. The red vertex is coincident to the end face of the edge flange. (A sketch line is displayed for clarity.) Parallel to base flange. The red vertex passes through a plane that is parallel to the face of the base flange. (A sketch line is displayed for clarity.)
Up To Edge And Merge
In a multibody part, merges the selected edge with a parallel edge in another body. Select an up to reference edge on the second body.
  • Outer Virtual Sharp PM_shm_Outer_Virtual_Sharp.gif, Inner Virtual Sharp PM_shm_Inner_Virtual_Sharp.gif
Specifies the origin for the measurement.
  • Select an up to reference edge PM_sheetmtl_Edge_Flange_Edge.gif

Flange Position

Bend Position Select one of the following:
Material Inside PM_shm_Material_Inside.gif
Material Outside PM_shm_Material_Outside.gif
Bend Outside PM_shm_Bend_Outside.gif
Bend from Virtual Sharp pm_shm_BVS.gif
Tangent to Bend PM_Tangent_to_Bend.gif
Valid for all flange length options and for bends that are greater than 90º. The flange position will always be tangent to the side face attached to the selected edge, and the flange length will always maintain the exact length.

Edge Flange Positions.gif

Trim side bends Select to remove extra material.
Offset Select to offset the flange from the sheet metal body.
Offset End Condition Select an item for Offset End Condition.
PM_reverse_direction.gif Reverse Direction Change the direction of the offset.
PM_distance_nonum.gif Offset Distance Set a value.

Custom Bend Allowance

Select to set a Bend Allowance Type and a value for the bend allowance.

Custom Relief Type

Select a Custom Relief Type to add relief cuts, then select the type of relief cut.

If Relief Type is:
  • Rectangle or Obround and you select Use relief ratio, set a value for Ratio.
  • Rectangle or Obround and you clear Use relief ratio, set values for Relief Width PM_Relief_Width.gif and Relief Depth PM_Relief_Depth.gif.
  • Tear select Rip PM_CustomRelief_Tear_Rip.gif or Extend PM_CustomRelief_Tear_Extend.gif.
