User Interface Customizations for Macros

You can assign a macro to a toolbar button, a keyboard shortcut, or a mouse gesture.

If you assign a macro to one type of user interface control, it is available to assign to the other two. For example, if you assign a macro to a toolbar button, the macro appears in the Keyboard and Mouse Gestures tabs of the Customize dialog box and you can assign a keyboard shortcut or mouse gesture to the macro.

A macro remains available in the Keyboard and Mouse Gestures tabs of the Customize dialog box as long as it is assigned to at least one user interface control. If you delete all user interface assignments for a macro, the SolidWorks software removes the macro from the Customize dialog box.

For example, if you assign a macro to both a keyboard shortcut and a mouse gesture, then delete the mouse gesture assignment, the macro remains available in both the Keyboard and Mouse Gestures tabs of the Customize dialog box. If you also delete the keyboard shortcut assignment, the macro is no longer available in the lists the next time you open the Customize dialog box.

SolidWorks 2012 and later does not require a \Macros folder in the SolidWorks installation directory to display and manage customized macros. You can store customized macros anywhere on your system.

If you used a \Macros folder for macros that have shortcut keys in SolidWorks 2011 and earlier, you need to copy the folder to your latest SolidWorks installation directory.
