Stock Material

Use the Stock Material screen in the Costing Template Editor to set the materials you need to manufacture the machined part.

To display this screen:

  • In the Costing Template Editor, click Stock Material.

You must assign data for each row before you can add another row to the table.

You can copy and paste numerical data in the Costing Template Editor.
Filters Displays the rows that match the Class, SolidWorks Material, and Stock Type selected.
Class Sets the material classes and custom material classes from the SolidWorks material database. You can have many instances of the same Class with different SolidWorks Material to denote finish and other characteristics that affect costs, but you cannot define physical properties (such as density).
SolidWorks Material Sets a material name associated with the selected Class.
Custom Material Displays the name of the SolidWorks Material or you can type a new name.
Stock Type Select one of the following:

Block

Provides cost estimates based on manufacturing the part from a block of material. If you select Block, the software assumes that milling and drilling are used to create the finished part. The initial block dimensions are for the tightest fitting block around the model.

Plate

Provides cost estimates based on manufacturing the part from a stock plate of material. If you select Plate, the software assumes that a combination of 2D machining operations such as waterjet, laser, and plasma cutting, as well as milling and drilling operations are used to create the finished part. Through cuts and cuts that define the outside boundary of the part are cut using a 2D cutting method such as waterjet, laser, or plasma. Blind geometry, such as pockets, chamfers, or holes are cut using milling or drilling operations.

Cylinder

Provides cost estimates based on manufacturing the part from a stock cylinder of material. If you select Cylinder, the software assumes that a combination of turning, milling, and drilling operations are used to create the finished part. Cylindrical regions are cut using turning operations whereas other geometry such as pockets, chamfers, or holes are cut using milling or drilling operations. The cylindrical stock uses the tightest fitting diameter to surround the model.
Thickness Available when you set Stock Type to Plate. Sets a thickness value for the Class and SolidWorks Material combination.

You can have many instances of the same Class and SolidWorks Material combinations with different Thickness values to denote various thicknesses that affect costs.

Cost Sets a cost per unit weight for the Class, SolidWorks Material, Stock Type, Thickness combination.
Export Exports material cost data to an .xlsx file, which you can modify for import back to the templates.
Update After you update material cost data in an exported .xlsx file, imports the updated cost data from the file.
